Bartolome Esteban Murillo was a Spanish painter active in Seville in the17th century. Mostly known for his religious paintings and depictions of street children, the National Gallery in London is taking a closer look at the artist’s self-portraits. We followed the curator of the show Letizia Treves inside the exhibition to learn about the influence of Velazquez, the trompe-l’oeil technique and why Murillo had fallen into disgrace before being rediscovered.
